The latest version of Android is finally here, and as suspected, it’s called Android Oreo. Google revealed the final name and consumer launch details of Android 8.0 via a livestream, coincidentally with the arrival of the solar eclipse over NYC.
Google has a history of using sweet treats for the names of its Android OS releases. The Android 1.5 was called the ‘Cupcake,’ while the KitKat (4.4) was the last branded release.
First devices to receive the Android O will be Pixel and Nexus 5X/6P, and anyone on the preview will also be updated to the final version. Pixel C and Nexus Player are next up, with other devices to follow shortly.
