A month hasn’t even passed since the Apple introduced its iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, and devices are already facing issues. According to a report emerging from Taiwan, an iPhone 8 Plus owner claims her device cracked open while on charge.
According to media, the phone belonged to a Ms. Wu, who recently purchased a 64GB rose gold iPhone 8 Plus.
The problem with the device emerged five days after purchasing it. Wu placed her phone on charge, and after three minutes, she reported seeing the front panel bulge, and eventually lift completely from the device.
The phone, though, was later recovered by the carrier, and has since been shipped to Apple for analysis.
Somewhat similar reports have also emerged from other iPhone 8 Plus owners. One Japanese owner claims his phone arrived in a comparable state, with the screen detached from the body.

One thing worth mentioning here is that the iPhone 8 Plus uses the same battery manufacturer, Amperex Technology Limited (ATL), as the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 – yeah, that same device.
But it’s also worth remembering that these reports aren’t necessarily indicative of a trend. It could easily be a manufacturing flaw with a couple of individual devices.
