In wake of recent events in Pakistan, a religious party sit-in and an operation against them, the Government has decided to keep social media websites, including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and DailyMotion blocked in Pakistan till further notice.
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has said that the decision to lift the ban on social media will be taken by the government. They further stated that the access to the websites was blocked on directions from Interior Ministry.
In first of its kind move, Government of Pakistan had yesterday decided to block Facebook, Twitter, DailyMotion and YouTube in the country, after the situation turned bad in the capital, Islamabad.
Other than that, the over all internet speeds in the country has been plunged. ISPs are saying that this is happening due to excessive blocking and the issue will be resolved after the ban on YouTube, Facebook and Twitter is lifted.
