After HTC suffered financial defeat after defeat and the lowest 13-year revenue this year, new reports have emerged that the Google is may be close to buying HTC’s smartphone business.
According to a Taiwanese publication report, the two companies are in the final stages of acquisition talks. The report, however, does not say how much Google may pay HTC to acquire their smartphone.
HTC is the pioneer of Android devices as it produced the very first Android phone in 2008. The company became one of the most prominent makers of Android devices, but However, it’s been years since the Taiwanese company had any success.
If the reports are accurate, this wouldn’t be the first time Google has bought a mobile maker. Google in 2012 bought Motorola for $12.5 billion. But the whole thing turned out to be a financial disaster, and later Google sold Motorola to Lenovo for less than $3 billion.
Google and HTC representatives declined to comment.
