Android 8.0 was just launched back in August, and Google is already working on its next big update. The company has released an Android 8.1 developer preview, with a final release planned sometime in December.

Android 8.1 preview includes couple of useful features, but most of the changes are for developers, such as hardware acceleration for on-device machine learning, improvements to auto-fill and new memory management features.

The biggest update in the preview includes activating the Pixel 2’s secret image processing chip, but it’s not clear if it’ll be included in the final release of Android 8.1, as it’s not explicitly mentioned in the related documentation.

If you want to get your hands on the latest preview, you can enroll in the Android Beta Program if you have a compatible device. It should be kept in mind that if you need to unroll from the beta, you’ll have to wipe your device.
