Microsoft in efforts to bring end-to-end encryption to Skype in partnering up with Signal. The protocol which powers Signal Private Messenger will now be used to bring end-to-end encryption in Skype.

The new feature named “Private Conversations” is available to Skype Insiders running version 8.13.76.8, and is planned for a full roll-out gradually later this year. Both end users in a conversation must be running a supported Skype version for the feature to be usable.

Microsoft is not the first and definitely not the last company to integrate Signal protocol to their messaging platform. Google’s Allo, Facebook Messenger, and WhatsApp have all adopted the protocol for end-to-end encrypted communication.
